Energy · Head of Renewables

Head of Renewables executive search.

Retained Head of Renewables and Renewable Energy Director search across wind, solar, battery storage and green hydrogen.

What the role is

A short definition.

A Head of Renewables leads the development, delivery or operation of a renewable energy portfolio or business unit — onshore wind, offshore wind, solar, battery storage, or (increasingly) green hydrogen. The role sits between technology, delivery and commercial, and in developer-side businesses is typically the primary interface with grid operators, planning authorities and offtakers.

Core responsibilities

What we assess candidates against.

  • Portfolio development strategy — sourcing, siting, planning
  • Delivery — engineering, procurement, construction management
  • Commercial — offtake negotiation, PPAs, route to market
  • Grid connections and system operator engagement
  • Team leadership across development, engineering, commercial and asset management
  • Board and investor reporting on portfolio progress and pipeline

When to run this search

Typical triggers.

On the launch of a new development portfolio; on entry into a new technology or geography; on the scaling of an existing developer from single-technology to multi-technology; on the departure of an incumbent.

How we search

The specific approach we take.

Retained. Candidate pools are largely international — the strongest UK renewables leaders draw on Danish, German, Dutch, Spanish and Australian pools. Every mandate is led by a partner with sector fluency, and international relocation and visa are coordinated as part of the mandate.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you handle Head of Renewables searches for specific technologies?

Yes. Technology-specific mandates (offshore wind lead, solar developer, battery storage head, green hydrogen lead) are common and handled with dedicated market mapping.

Can you support international candidate sourcing for UK renewables roles?

Yes. UK renewables leadership is genuinely internationally competed. We coordinate visa, relocation and compensation structures for international candidates as part of the mandate.

Do you recruit for renewable energy investment leadership?

Yes. Head of Renewables Investment (in institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds and infrastructure funds) is a distinct role handled at the intersection of this practice and our Finance sector practice.

How long does a Head of Renewables search take?

Twelve to sixteen weeks brief to accepted offer is typical. International candidates or roles requiring visa sponsorship add three to four weeks.

How is compensation structured?

Base, cash bonus tied to portfolio milestones (planning consented, FID, COD), and (in developer-side businesses) equity or LTIP participation.
